Travels with V

Adventures

All our travels are adventures per se, but some events are more adventurous than others. Here are some of those, starting with a recently made film of our flight over southern Sweden in a hot air ballon. (English subtitles selectable!)

1. Hot air balloon over Scania

2. Ziplining in Cuba

Las Terrazas is an eco village about halfway between Havana and Viñales in Cuba’s north-west. A lush and lovely place built on the site of a former coffee plantation. The main tourist attraction here is probably a 1,6 km long zipline taking riders wooshing through a green jungle, sometimes over the canopy and finally over waters of a small dam mirroring the sky.

For those who wonder – a zipline is a kind of simple lift where you’re in a seat hanging under a wheel running along a wire between platforms. Each section of the zipline has a start platform that lies higher than the end platform, so the ride can be pretty fast. This particular zipline consisted of five such sections. We had never tried it before, but it was quite easy to learn how to break etc. And it really was an incredible experience, to fly through the jungle. We definitely recommend it if you happen to be in Havana or Viñales, to spend a few hours and ride zipline in Las Terrazas.

3. Snorkling in tropical seas

We love snorkeling and do it often if we get the chance. Which we’ve had in some of the world’s most clear and rich waters. Here are just two examples, earlier trips unfortunately haven’t been caught on film. Back then we didn’t have an underwater camera.

On the reef running along the coast of Belize in Central America the waters are more clear than anywhere else that we’ve been. We snorkeled here a couple of times and saw a multitude of sharks, rays and other remarkable fish.

The rich waters around the western tip of the Indonesian island of Flores is a haven for divers coming in from all over the world. We snorkeled there and were attacked by angry triggerfish defending their part of the reef.
